Child Therapy

Each child is unique. My own kids have taught me this. Every child has their particular creativity, their ways of being with others, and of relating to the world. When a child is struggling, their unique creative force is either not being recognized by others or is being blocked by parts of themselves that are having a hard time. Play therapy is based on the idea that the child has an inner creative self-healing power and the role of the therapist is to facilitate the child connecting with this power.

What is play therapy?

Play is how children naturally express themselves. Through play they give voice to inner feelings and experiences that they don't yet have words for. When children have feelings of fear or anger or grief that are overwhelming, play can be a safe way to let them out. Play therapy creates a container for conflicting or difficult feelings to come out through games, toys, and imagination. The therapist connects with the child by allowing them the freedom to express themselves through play and coming to understand their inner worlds. Through the process, children learn to cope with extreme experience and feelings and to manage what can otherwise be unmanageable. Every child--like every adult--has an inner creative capacity to grow and heal. My role is to help your child connect with this creative and self-healing force that lives in them.
